Levels of Care

Services that Montgomery Hospice provides are prescribed by the Medicare Hospice Benefit .

Hospice at Home cares for patients wherever they reside, including extended care facilities.

Casey House is what Medicare defines as an acute care hospice inpatient unit. It is our area's only medical facility designed and built to care for hospice patients.

Hospice at Home

Routine Care
For: Patients whose pain and symptoms can be managed in their own residence
Time Limit: As long as there is medical necessity as outlined by Federal rule
Billed: By Montgomery Hospice to insurer as routine home care
Comment: Comprises most Montgomery Hospice care
Is delivered in a nursing home, assisted living facility or a private residence

Continuous Care
For: Patients in crisis requiring frequent professional care interventions wherever they reside
Time Limit: Until the crisis is resolved
Billed: By Montgomery Hospice to insurer as continuous care
Comment: Minimum 8 hours of care, at least 50% of which an RN or LPN provides, in the 24 hours beginning and ending at midnight
Is delivered in a nursing home, assisted living facility or a private residence
Needs to be pre-approved by commercial insurers
Must follow Medicare guidelines
Subject to after-care review by Medicare

Casey House

Acute Care
For: Patients with pain and/or symptoms that cannot be managed safely and therapeutically in any other setting
Time Limit: Until the crisis is resolved
Billed: To insurer as general (a.k.a. acute) inpatient care
Comment: Is a short-term solution to a crisis
Is regulated by strict standards set by commercial insurers and by Medicare
